Jumping into the deep end of eventing
Meet one of the winners of the 2017 ILembe Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur Competition.

Turning a business around can be one of the most challenging undertakings any young entrepreneur can face, but Natasha Rencken has always liked to jump into the deep end in life.
Rencken is the owner of Posh Events by Design, an events company that handles everything from weddings and baby-showers, to golf days and corporate functions.
Posh Events was one of the finalists in this year’s Ilembe Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur Competition, eventually coming in second.
A vibrant young business woman, Rencken told the Courier she loved looking a challenge dead in the eye.
“I do not believe there is anything that cannot be done,” she said.
She purchased the (then) Posh Party in 2016, refurbishing it and converting it into a VAT registered company.
Rebranded as Posh Events by Design (Pty) Ltd, Rencken took on the challenge of rejuvenating a flagging business and making it competitive and profitable.
“Like anyone will tell you, buying a business comes with skeletons,” she said.
“Overnight I had to become an accountant, PA, salesperson, packer, worker, delivery girl and still maintain relationships with clients.”
Fortunately, Rencken is a hands on person who thrives in chaos and within six months she had a firm hold on the reigns.

She managed to increase the business’ profitability multiple times over in her first year as owner.
“Being one of the finalists in the Entrepreneur Competition was life changing for me and my business. My fellow finalists and our mentors now have an existing network in each other and we have all gained new skills, learning to work on our businesses as well as in them.”
Rencken told the Courier she had always gravitated towards event planning, to the point where – at the age of eight – she insisted on planning her family’s Easter celebrations and the like.
At The Wedding Expo in Durban last year, Posh Events earned excellence awards for both its own stand and that of a client, Duboirs Wedding Venue, as well as being selected as a finalist for the Business Women’s Association Achievers award.
