Report back: Tommy du Toit

The year has flown by and it has indeed been a busy one with many ups and downs.

The year has flown by and it has indeed been a busy one with many ups and downs. My feedback report on some of the issues in Ward 21 are:

• The repairs to the staircase in Townsend Park has been outstanding for more than a year and there has been no indication from KDM as to when it will be fixed. This is despite numerous phone calls and follow-ups with the municipality.

• On a positive note, the issue of a pedestrian crossing on P445, Ballito is finally being addressed as the UIP is erecting a fence. This project has been approved by the transport department and KDM so there are no expected delays.

• In my other ward, Driefontien, Upper Tongaat, the community were promised 1500 homes in 2004 and only 69 have been built despite the desperate need for proper housing. KDM is short of funds and the project is on hold.

• Stormwater drains in Driefontein desperately need to be replaced and fixed. When there are heavy rains, the broken drains cause havoc and result in flooding. KDM workers have inspected the drains twice but still, they have done nothing about it.

• A new reservoir has been built in Driefontein despite delays. However, there needs to be a pipeline from the new reservoir and it needs to pass through a farmer’s land. The farmer, however, has refused to let this happen as KDM has owed him a large sum of money for seven years after a road was built on his land.

There is still hope that the year will see some of these outstanding and critical issues addressed. We will continue to bring up and promote the change we need to see in communities. Be safe and have a wonderful festive season.
