Don’t drink and braai on beaches

Last weekend, 17 people were arrested for drunken driving, most of them coming from Zinkwazi and Blythedale beach.

Despite the signs being displayed on every beach informing beach goers that braaing and drinking is not allowed, police are still facing the problem of people trying to braai or drink on the beach.

Last weekend, 17 people were arrested for drunk driving, most of them coming from Zinkwazi and Blythedale beach.

No one is allowed to have a braai at Ballito’s beaches, however, Umhlali SAPS spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay said people are still doing it.

According to KwaDukuza’s bylaws, no one is allowed to have a braai where there is no braai facility and alcohol is prohibited.

The only beaches within the KwaDukuza municipal boundaries that are suitable for people to have a braai are at Tinley Manor, Blythedale and Zinkwazi.

Ilembe cluster SAPS spokesperson, constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo said police will show no mercy to people who drink and drive or drink in public places.

“Most of these drivers were caught after 8pm. KwaDukuza SAPS recently had a meeting with KDM traffic and crime prevention to enforce the bylaws of the KwaDukuza Municipality and a notice to the public was made to refrain from drinking and carrying liquor in public places like parks and beaches,” said Khuzwayo.
