Keep our coast green and clean this holiday
There are several recycling points throughout Ballito, so you have no excuse not to recycle this Christmas season.
It is that time of year again when the Dolphin Coast will be swamped by visitors eager to enjoy the golden splendour of our beaches.
On a less optimistic note, this is also the time of year when litter picks up drastically.
The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund is just one local organisation working to keep the Dolphin Coast clean and encourage people to recycle.
There are several recycling points throughout Ballito, so you have no excuse not to recycle this Christmas season.
Recycling points can be found at:
The Ballito Business Centre (next to the old Caltex in Ballito Drive), Ballito Convenience Centre on the corner of the M4 and Douglas Crowe Drive, Sugar Rush Café on Esenembi Road, Dolphin Coast Pre-Primary School at 74 Hilary Road, Hops Restaurant and Bar and Salty’s Pub and Grill.
According to The Glass Recycling Company (TGRC), glass produced from recycled glass rather than raw materials decreases air pollution by 20% and water pollution by 50%.
For every ton of glass recycled over a ton of the raw materials used to make glass is saved and 670 kilograms of carbon dioxide is prevented from being released into the atmosphere.
The Dolphin Coast Conservancy’s Di Jones also expressed her hope that locals and holidaymakers would keep the Dolphin Coast clean.
“We hope all our visitors will help us keep our beaches free of litter and join in the worldwide effort to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We can all contribute our bit and give the gift of caring, which costs nothing and helps the entire global population!”
