Holiday makers’ children killed in rock throwing attack near Ballito
The driver rushed his daughter and son to Netcare Alberlito Hospital where the siblings were pronounced dead on arrival.
A teenager and her seven-year-old brother were killed in a shocking rock throwing attack on the N2 last night.
According to Umhlali SAPS spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay, the family from Vereeniging were driving north on the N2 shortly before 9pm when a large rock was thrown at the car from a bridge between Tongaat and Ballito.
The rock smashed into their vehicle’s windshield, severely injuring the 16-year-old girl and her brother.
Their father, who had been driving the vehicle, immediately rushed them to Netcare Alberlito Hospital in Ballito, however the siblings were pronounced dead on arrival.

Pillay said the motive for the attack was still unclear.
“We are appealing to the public for any information about this incident. If there were witnesses or if you have information about the perpetrators, contact Umhlali police station.”
He urged people to drive carefully and to report any suspicious activity on the roads.
Pillay said an inquest had been opened and once more was known about what happened the police would decide what charges to investigate.
