Narrow escape for Sheffield family after rock thrown across N2

This is the sixth rock throwing incident to have been reported on the North Coast.

Sheffield resident Sam Miller is still in shock after a rock thrown on the N2 yesterday (Saturday) managed to miss her car by seconds.

The 34 year old mother of two said she had been travelling from Ballito to Salt Rock when a medium-sized rock was thrown onto the road just before the Salt Rock on-ramp.

“I had my 67-year-old mother and five-year-old daughter in the car with me. We had been chatting and I was driving a bit slow. The next thing I knew, there was a white rock flying across the road. It was thrown considerably low from what seemed like the centre median of the road. I avoided hitting it only by a few seconds.”

Miller said she continued driving and reported the incident to the police over the phone.

“I did not open a case but I just wanted the police to be aware. Motorists are under the impression that traveling below bridges is dangerous but it is now all roads and there are little options left for drivers. For me, the N2 is no longer an option.”

This is the sixth rock throwing incident to have been reported on the North Coast within two weeks. Two people have lost their lives on the N2 and last week two incidents of rock throwing from the Boys Town Bridge on the M4 were reported.
