Two girls survive rabid dog attack

Rabies vaccinations will be carried out free of charge by the state veterinary service and department of agriculture this Thursday, January 25.

Two girls at the Shortens Country Estate, opposite Umhlali Country Club were recently bitten by a stray dog that had rabies.

According to control animal health technician, Quintin Doidge from the state vet clinic in Stanger, the dog tried to attack the estate manager, who managed to close the door on it.

But while he was fetching a stick to chase it away, it attacked two girls aged five and ten.

“The two girls have been to a medical professional and are receiving the full treatment required to prevent them getting rabies. They are doing well and the dog was euthanised by the SPCA,” said Doidge.
