UPDATE: New date for Etete housing

Residents blocked the R102 with a violent protest on January 9.

KwaDukuza municipality has promised Etete residents the building of 150 RDP houses that they have been promised since 2013, is set to start on February 5.

Residents blocked the R102 with a violent protest on January 9 when the project for the Khalafukwe area, which had been promised to start on January 8, did not happen.

KDM media liaison officer Sipho Mkhize said the reason behind the delay was due to lack of a budget and the contractor was waiting for building material.

One of their demands was that Councillor Promise Dube be removed as they accused her of not doing her job as she had not been keeping them informed about the housing.

“The mayor held public meetings with the residents on January 16 and 21. It was agreed that residents would deal with the speaker, Phumlile Zulu, should they have any complaints,” said Mkhize.
