Man drowns in Shakaskraal dam

In August last year a school outing ended in tragedy when a six-year-old boy drowned in the same dam.

A 26-year-old man died after drowning in a Dolphin Coast dam where he and some friends had been braaing on Sunday night.

According to Specialised Rescue Unit’s Quentin Power, a group of men were enjoying a braai alongside the dam at Lucky Linton Farm outside Shakaskraal around 8pm when one of the men decided to go for a swim.

“He found himself in trouble in the water and one of the other guys called us and the police,” said Power.

In August last year a school outing ended in tragedy when a six-year-old boy drowned in the same dam.

Three children were on a raft with an adult when they fell into the water.

The man managed to rescue two of the children but was unable to save the third, who had reportedly been underwater for nearly ten minutes by the time bystanders pulled him out and initiated CPR; when paramedics arrived they took over but to no avail.

Lucky Linton management declined to comment on the matter.
