Second school closed in Etete by angry residents

Radha Roopsingh Primary has been closed 10 days after residents closed the doors to Tinley Manor Primary.

Another Etete school has had to close its doors today (Wednesday) after residents and parents protested outside Radha Roopsingh Primary due to the lack of classrooms and overcrowding.

Radha has closed only 10 days after staff and pupils were removed from Tinley Manor Primary School, as parents lost patience with the slow progress in the school’s promised extension project.

A parent, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said since the school opened in January, many pupils have had to attend classes outside under the trees.

He said his son who is in grade four, has not been placed in a classroom and when it rains, teachers have to divide the children and put them in different classrooms.

“The situation is very bad at Radha and since the parents at Tinley Manor Primary decided to take action, we thought we should do the same.”

Meanwhile, the Tinley Manor Primary School remains closed, after the education department officials did not arrive for a meeting that was scheduled for today.

Education department spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa, said they urge residents to please stop distracting the process of learning and they are working around the clock to solve these issues.
