UPDATE: Shaka’s Head protest victim worsens, on life support
Sashnie Daniel's father received a heartbreaking call from doctors today saying she was in a critical state and that there was nothing left to do but pray.

The 27-year-old jewellery consultant who was hit by a brick thrown onto the R102 during a Shaka’s Head protest two weeks ago, has taken a turn for the worse.
Sashnie Daniel and her boyfriend’s cousin were travelling on the R102 from Tongaat to Stanger on Sunday night, February 25, when a brick that was thrown by a Shaka’s Head protester hit her on the head, knocking her out.
The protest came after residents had not had electricity for 11 hours after KwaDukuza Municipality stopped their electricians from responding to weekend calls in a bid to cut down the municipality’s overtime costs.

The 27-year old Stanger woman was rushed by ambulance services to Stanger Hospital and transferred to Albert Luthuli Hospital two days later with severe head trauma.
Her father, Kovi Daniel, said he received a heartbreaking call from doctors today saying Sashnie was in a critical state and that there was nothing left to do except pray.
“Sashnie had a fractured skull, three blood clots and swelling. Doctors hoped the blood clots would disappear on its own but on Friday night, her head started to swell severely.
“Doctors had to do an emergency operation at 11 pm and she only came out of surgery at 3 am the next morning. She is now on life support in ICU. We are praying and we are appealing for people to offer their prayers because right now, that is all we can do.”

Daniel called for action against those responsible.
“My child is just another statistic.
“If she does pull through, we do not know if she will be the same because of the head trauma. We want someone to be held accountable, whether it be KwaDukuza municipality, the councillor or the protesters. Right now I cannot even visit my only daughter because I cannot see her in that state. No one knows what I am going through.”
The distraught father said his daughter, who worked at the American Swiss store in Ballito, was the main breadwinner of the house as he is disabled.
Umhlali SAPS Vinny Pillay has appealed for anyone with information of who led the protest or incited violence, to come forward.
