The eclipse of a century

Sadly, a day after the celebration, Thathiwe Zondi passed away.

The Etete community recently celebrated the lives of their two oldest residents with a 100th birthday party for the two matriarchs.

Mamiketsi Nkopane and Thathiwe Zondi (who was unable to attend due to her health) were treated with great honour at the Ekhalafukwe Community Hall.

Thirty community elders attended the event.

Sadly Zondi passed away the following day.

Ekhalafukwe ANCYL chairperson Njabulo Khetshane thanked all the people who came on board, including KwaDukuza municipality, to donate wheelchairs, blankets, money and walking sticks to the seniors.

“After the party we went to Zondi’s house to give her wheelchair and blankets.

“It was very sad when we were told the next day that she had passed away,” said Ketshane.
