Serve, pray, love at Destiny Life Church

The new heads of Destiny Life Church in Gledhow want to reach people from all walks of life.

New life has been breathed into a 30-year-old church in Gledhow, Stanger with passionate new leaders at the helm.

With faith as small as a mustard seed and passion for Christ, the new heads of Destiny Life Church want to reach people from all walks of life and take the church outside of the confines of their building.

After having travelled around the world spreading the gospel and helping to restore struggling churches, Dan and Chantelle Barnard have settled in Darnall with the firm belief that God has good plans for the people of KwaDukuza.

The couple, who are parents to two grown children and one still in the nest, took up full-time ministry three years ago after being involved with churches for over 20 years. They have been based at the charismatic Destiny Life Church for about a year.

Before they arrived the church had been through a difficult season and numbers had dwindled.

“We now want to expand the vision for the church because as the Bible says, ‘Where there is no vision, the people perish.’

“We want people to know this is a new season and that we are here to serve, pray, love and walk with people on their spiritual journey,” said Dan.

The softly spoken and warm Chantelle, said they also wanted to focus attention on serving people outside of the church.

“Currently we are helping at an orphanage in Lindelani but we want to do more in Gledhow and the city centre.”

One project close to their hearts is to start a weekly market where people can take stalls free of charge.

Dan said they offered a church experience that was relevant and real.

“Many people stay at home and watch church on TV but they must remember the pastor on TV is not preaching to you in Stanger, he is preaching to an American audience with completely different needs and circumstances.”

He stressed that no TV could ever replace the value of belonging to a local church family.

Dan reiterated that he would not pull any punches just to “tickle people’s ears with what they want to hear” because this would do more harm than good in the long run.

“If we have faith as small as a mustard seed then we can move mountains and so we have faith to grow this church and this community.”
