Emergency surgery for Shaka’s Head protest victim as her condition deteriorates

Doctors have given her a 50 percent chance of surviving the operation.

Stanger resident Sashni Daniel has taken another turn for the worse.

The 27-year-old jewellery consultant suffered critical head injuries after she was hit by a brick while travelling on the R102 on February 25.

Several cars were stoned during the service delivery protest at Shaka’s Head.

Sashni suffered a fractured skull, swelling of the brain and three blood clots.

Her father Kovi Daniel said he was shocked and once again heartbroken when her doctors at Albert Luthuli Hospital said the young woman would have to undergo another emergency operation tonight.

“They said that pressure was once again increasing and that her chances were 50/50.

“I cannot believe this is happening as we really thought she would make a good recovery. “

Sashni was transferred to the general ward last week in what was believed to be a “miracle turn around” after people joined hands in prayer.

However, Kovi said he noticed during the weekend that his daughter was confused and very restless.

“There was still bruising to her brain, memory loss and she was highly confused.

“She already underwent a surgery three weeks ago to relieve pressure on her brain. This will be her second surgery.”
