UPDATE: ANCYL threatens to mobilise against Umhlali Prep
Two weeks ago the league threatened to take action against the Dolphin Coast school for, in their opinion, operating with apartheid ideals and not accepting black children.
The ANC Youth League in the greater KwaDukuza region has threatened to “roll out a massive action” against Umhlali Preparatory School should the school not adhere to their recommendations.
“As a way forward we are demanding the immediate removal of all racist policies in the school which exclude black children, should this not happen, the school governing board and principal of the school should consider stepping down.
“To this end, we will roll out a massive action aimed at rooting out all “normalised” white supremacist policies,” said league secretary Musa Zondi.

The school governing body and ANCYL leaders met last week in an attempt to resolve the league’s claims.
Umhlali Preparatory governing body chairperson Jonathan De Wet described the meeting as civil while Zondi said it was a fruitless exercise.
Zondi told the Courier that he personally investigated the school after the league received complaints that Umhlali Preparatory School’s waiting list did not allow for black children to enroll.
He was turned away because he lived in Groutville, outside the school’s catchment area.
Based on observation, Zondi also said the school had a population of two percent black children.
De Wet rubbished Zondi’s claims saying that the school enrolled 25 percent black children and the facility had simply reached its capacity and could not accommodate any more children regardless of catchment areas.
He said Zondi’s agenda was a personal one.
Despite the Courier being the only newspaper to publish both De Wet and Zondi’s opinions on the matter, the league has also accused the newspaper of “being in the same WhatsApp group” as Umhlali Preparatory.
“We are not in the habit of criticising the media or telling journalists how to do their job. Hence we cheered in 2017 when team North Coast Courier received national journalism awards, however, we cannot take the one-sided reporting by this media house. This poses the question if they belong to the same WhatsApp group as Umhlali Preparatory.”
