Stand against bullies

The six-month campaign will see schools adopting an anti-bullying policy to be signed by the principal and school governing body.

Selected KwaDukuza schools are about to join a national anti-bullying campaign as part of human rights month in March.

UMTAPO – a nonprofit organisation – is rolling out the campaign in 19 schools around KZN, six of them being in Ilembe.

These include Radha Roopsingh Primary School; Tinley Manor Primary School; Dr BW Vilakazi Primary School; Mbekamuzi Combined School; Melville Primary School and Aldenville Primary School.

UMTAPO’s special projects director Arun Naicker said the six-month campaign will see the schools adopting an anti-bullying policy to be signed by the principal and school governing body.

“Peace Clubs will be created to raise awareness through debates, posters, and workshops. We will also have leadership camps geared to enhance self-worth, understanding societal issues, and addressing problems at schools that affect child safety.”

She said the anti-bullying campaign is part of the Child Safety and Protection project run by UMTAPO and funded by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.

“The aim is to create safer learning environments by forming networks in schools among parents, teachers, community stakeholders and pupils as well as engaging government departments to make sure action is taken against abuse and the abusers in schools.”
