Major cash injection for Hospice
Dolphin Coast Hospice sees to the needs of 138 patients from Compensation to Newark and inland to Glendale.
For 15 years the Dolphin Coast Hospice (DCH) has been taking care of the elderly and frail in our community, and their commitment to caring has not waned with time.
The dream of building their own hospice building took another leap forward recently with the donation of R100 000 by a Stanger businessman.
Jaggiah Naidoo (or JM Naidoo), told the Courier that when he learned the DCH did not receive any government subsidies for their work, he had to get involved.
“Stanger really needs this,” said the 88-year-old Naidoo.
“All over the country we constantly see stories of the elderly being neglected. We need to step in and do something about it by providing support.
Naidoo encouraged other businesses in the area to join him in supporting the DCH, saying that he saw his donation as an investment in the community.
“If everyone gets involved, we can work miracles together.”
Land for the proposed DCH building was granted by KDM mayor Ricardo Mthembu about a year ago and the project is well into its planning stages. The estimated total cost will be in the area of R9,5 million, so they still have some way to go. Once completed the hospice will have its own daycare and in-patient facilities.
Currently, DCH sees to the needs of 138 patients from Compensation to Newark and inland to Glendale.
According to DCH board member Chin Suriah the majority of their patients are cancer sufferers.
“It opens your eyes and mind to the people who really need help in our country,” he said.
The DCH appealed to the community for donations to help them in reaching their goal, they are a non profit and supply 18A tax certificates to donours. For more information contact Chin Suriah at 082 974 2716.
