WATCH: Man dead, teenage girl critical after bloody day on North Coast roads
A helicopter airlifted the critically injured teen to Addington Hospital.
A man was killed on the R102 earlier today (Saturday) while a teenager had to be airlifted to hospital after a second accident near Umdloti this afternoon that left three children with critical injuries.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, this morning a 53-year-old man was driving on the R102 near King Shaka Airport with his wife and another passenger on board when he hit a cow.

“The driver recieved fatal injuries and was declared dead by paramedics, while his wife and the second passenger had moderate injuries,” said Paul.
According to Paul, reports suggest the man was on his way to make a delivery when he hit the cow, veered across the oncoming lane and hit an embankment beside the road. The cow was also killed.
In the second accident, an Umdloti family collided head-on with another car near the famous dolphin on the corner of Bellamont Road at the entrance to Umdloti.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst told the Courier a Hyundai i20 and a Toyota Etios crashed on the M27 shortly before 1pm this afternoon.

“Three children between the ages of four and 13 were in the Etios when the accident occurred. All three received critical injuries, with the 13-year-old girl going into cardiac arrest and the two children in the back seat both suffering serious head trauma.
Shawn said paramedics were able to revive the teenager with CPR.
Aside from the three children, two adults in the Etios and two in the i20 were also injured.
The IPSS emergency helicopter was dispatched and landed on Umdloti bridge to airlift the girl to Addington Hospital.
