Hope for taxi justice

A crowd of Etete and Nkobongo residents protested outside the court opposing the taxi owner's bail.

Two men, including a taxi owner from the Dolphin Coast Taxi Association (DCTA), were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm on Friday.

They appeared at the Umhlali Magistrate Court on Monday and the taxi owner was remanded in custody, while investigation and verification of his address is being done.

The other man was granted R5000 bail.

They will appear at the Stanger Magistrate Court on Monday.

A crowd of Etete and Nkobongo residents protested outside the court opposing the taxi owner’s bail.

They were accusing him of being the one behind the murders of DCTA secretary Dan Maharaj, PRO Mdu Tonny, chairperson Robert Stephen and Dicky Govender and his wife.

Stephen’s sister Stella Mack said as a family they are looking for closure.

“We want him to be charged and sentenced for what him and his friends did to the innocent taxi owners.

“We have been waiting for this day to come and we hope justice will be served,” said Mack.

A source close to the Courier said the taxi owner might be charged still be charged with another crime but what this will be could not be confirmed.
