Fencing Ballito’s P445 to begin tonight

After a long approval process, the Ballito UIP now have the go ahead to install the fence.

The call for action to prevent pedestrians from crossing the busy P445 into Ballito is being answered with the installation of a fence starting tonight.

After a long approval process, the Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) have been given the green light to install a 700 meter Clearvu safety fence on the center median along the section of road from the M4 intersection to the McDonald’s intersection at Moffatt Drive.

Ballito UIP security manager Dieter Fittkau said the project was born out of the growing calls to address the pedestrian problem.

“Pedestrian safety along this route is a massive concern, with a consistent number of pedestrian accidents occurring monthly.

“This safety fence as critical in reducing the risk of pedestrian fatalities,” said Fittkau.

The installation on the safety fence will start at the intersection with the M4 and is expected to be completed by June 1.

All landscaping will be removed and reinstated once the job is complete.

Due to the busy nature of the road and to ensure as little commuter inconvenience as possible, work to install the fence will only take place at night.
