UPDATE: Ballito P445 fence workers intimidated

The work will continue during the day.

The installation of the Urban Improvement Precinct’s (UIP) fence on the P445 in Ballito will now take place during the day after the workers were intimidated on Thursday night.

According to Head of UrbanPLACES – a division of UrbanMGT – Cara Reilly, an unidentified group wanted to lay claim to the contract.

“The UIP has engaged with both SAPS and KwaDukuza municipality, who have informed us that this is not an isolated incident in the KwaDukuza area and have supported our request for work to continue on this important pedestrian safety initiative during the day, and will provide law enforcement support if required,” said Reilly.

She said the installation was planned to take place at night to reduce the impact on traffic, but they would now be forced to forgo that plan.

“The UIP appeals for public patience during the installation period.”
