Umhlali SAPS calls for trauma centre donations
With a large number of victims visiting the centre every day, Captain Pillay is appealing to the public to donate food items.
After months of hard work, Umhlali SAPS launched their Victim Support Units last December.
These units serve as trauma centres for victims of abuse, rape cases and abandoned children.
The two container units have been kitted out over the last several months with donations from the community.
WATCH: Finally, a safe space for victims
But with a large number of victims visiting the centre every day, Umhlali SAPS Capt Vinny Pillay, who has been the driving force behind this initiative, is now appealing to the public to donate food items.

“We get numerous victims on a daily basis, and the station requires food items in order to make their stay/visit to the police station more comfortable,” said Pillay.
“We appeal to the public to provide any of the following.”
- Rusks (small packs or individually packed)
- 2 minute noodles
- Biscuits
- Canned food
- Chips
- Small juice box
- Mixing juice
- Small box milk
- Sachet or small packet of sugar and coffee
- Small snacks such as fruit bites, peanuts and raisins
- Jam
- Peanut butter
Items can be dropped off at the station commander’s office at Umhlali SAPS, room 4.
Alternatively, arrangements can be made to fetch the items.
Contact Capt Pillay on 032-9479900 or cell 073 310 0103.
