Newly inducted president Richard Brooks has pledged to continue the legacy of helping local people.

With a new leader at the helm, the Rotary club in Ballito aims to reach greater heights and as this year’s themes suggests, ‘be the inspiration’.

Dedicated to serving the community, newly inducted president Richard Brooks has pledged to continue the legacy of helping local people.

Brooks, who is the 30th president in the local chapter of the international service organisation, told guests at his induction dinner last Saturday that although the club was small, he hoped to leave his mark through service work.

“We may be small in number but we have the expertise and the will to get big jobs done which impact the needy in our community. A typical example of this is the container load of disabled equipment which the previous President Jeff recently brought into the country from the UK which he estimated to be worth 100 000 pounds.”

Brooks outlined some of his goals for the year ahead which included: to continue bringing more equipment for the disabled to Ballito, continue fundraising initiatives, grow the membership and identify needs in the community.

Outgoing President Jeff Shinns said the highlight of his year was the 40-foot container load of disabled equipment that he organised through a club in England worth R1,7million.

He was ecstatic to hand over two special standing frames for children with cerebral palsy to Captain Vinny Pillay and Shaleen Ramlaken from Umhlali SAPS.
