Obituary: Farewell to Umhlali’s friendly Wendy

Wendy was known for her outgoing friendliness to people from all walks of life and could be found in Spar or anywhere in Ballito enjoying a chat.

A long-time resident of the Umhlali District, Wendy Cilliers (nee Southwood) passed away on June 23.

Born on October 13, 1946 to Dr Charles and Dorothy Southwood, Wendy attended Umhlali Primary followed by Oakford Prep and Girls Collegiate.

She then went on to finishing school which laid down her future as an accomplished seamstress and gardener.

She married Pieter Cilliers and had four children. In the early 80’s they opened Ballito Spar and worked together until Pieter passed away in 1996, after 30 years of marriage.

Wendy was known for her outgoing friendliness to people from all walks of life and could be found in Spar or anywhere in Ballito enjoying a chat.

Friends and family were always welcome in her home for tea, a cat on the lap and of course a chat.

Wendy will be dearly missed by her children Kevin and Trish, Mandy and Alex, Bridget and Jason and Desiree, as well as her grandchildren Kristen, Taryn, Gavin and JonoRoss, brother Tony, sister Ann and all her friends.
