Brighter future in the bag

Lifestyle Superspar who have proudly introduced their new paper bags.

Marching at the front of the ‘plastic must fall’ movement is Lifestyle Superspar who have proudly introduced their new paper bags.

Lifestyle Superspar’s new store manager Brad Buchanan said their customers are thrilled with this sustainable shopping bag option.

“We have seen a massive uptake to the paper bags as well as our existing hessian bags. Some responses to the paper bags have been nostalgic as customers immediately said ‘oh, when I was small we had these’. The general consumer sentiment is definitely less plastic,” said Buchanan.

He said their paper bags are made from a scientifically manufactured patent using wet strength cross-fibres that can withstand weights “up to 14kg’s” when dry and are less likely to break when a “wet” product is put into the bag.

“The bags are made from materials that come from sustainable forestry – a forest that is carefully managed so that as trees are felled they are replaced with seedlings.

“The bags have no wax lining and the resin (glue) is home compostable.”

They will continue to offer plastic bags too, but they have been modified to be more eco-friendly.

“The new plastic carrier bags need to conform to the maximum level of eight percent calcium carbonate filler, thus ensuring that our carriers are recyclable. This does mean that pricing for our plastic carriers will increase slightly as more filler will be used to substitute the reduced calcium content.”
