WATCH: KwaDukuza Mall to open in September

The mall's anchor stores include Woolworths, Checkers and Pick and Pay.

The R460-million KwaDukuza Mall currently being built in Stanger, is set to open its doors to the public on September 27, employing more than 250 local people.

Billionaire property developer and mall owner Vivian Reddy said during a site visit on Tuesday that the project had created 1330 direct and indirect jobs, involving 500 people from local communities, and 20 local subcontractors and suppliers.

The mall is fully rented out, with the major anchors being Woolworths, Checkers and Pick & Pay.

Reddy said that 40 of the 130 shops would be locally owned.

KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu praised local political parties for supporting the development.

“We will have to ensure that when it comes to employment, all KwaDukuza wards are covered to avoid protests.

“Of course, those who will not be employed might be upset but people need to understand that they need to meet job requirements in order to get a job,” said Mthembu.
