According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Dylan Meyrick, the accident occurred at about 4.30pm between a woman in a Ford hatchback and a family of three in a Landcruiser.

“She was travelling south when she apparently lost control and swerved into the oncoming lane, straight into the Landcruiser,” Meyrick told the Courier.

The area around the crash was quickly cleared as the crumpled Ford began to emit smoke. Firefighters doused any potential flames and used the jaws of life to free the woman’s trapped remains.

This stretch of the highway, especially where the north and southbound lanes come together with no partition in the middle, has been the scene of numerous crashes, claiming several lives every year.

“The N2 between Stanger and the Tugela River is an absolute nightmare,” warned Meyrick, “There’s at least an accident every two weeks.”

Motorists are urged to reduce speed and remain alert when travelling on this road in order to avoid becoming another notch in the road’s frightening statistics
