The telling of life stories

Although this is her first published book, Mduli said she started writing when she was in grade 10 at Nonhlelvu Secondary School.

A vibrant Nkobongo freelance journalist, poet and photographer Khanyisile “Jaybee” Mdluli recently released a very interesting book, Sketches of African Stories- a compilation of short stories and poems.

Although this is her first published book, Mduli said she started writing when she was in grade 10 at Nonhlelvu Secondary School.

The 23-year-old grew up spending most of her time reading books and writing down her daily thoughts.

“I do have friends, but I did not enjoy going out to play with other children, so whatever thought I had in mind, I wrote it down,” said Mdluli.

She said her stories are about things that happen daily in the society and as you read the book you will be able to relate to some of the incidents that she writes about.

“My book has five short stories and ten poems and it is just one of the many unpublished works I have, of which I hope to publish all in the future,” said Mdluli.

Mdluli matriculated in 2012 and got her journalism diploma at ICESA in 2015.

She said she is very passionate about any form of art, but poetry is the best.

“I feel it heals your souls and you get to express your feelings about the daily challenges we face in our society. It’s actually interesting how one can connect with people through literature and write about stories that people can relate to or picture themselves in similar situations.”
