Grandpa’s tunes for orphans

Terry Buchanan loves to add some spice to life with music from his harmonica.

He casually sits outside Lifestyle Superspar, harmonica in hand and adds a cheerful melody to Tuesday pensioners’ day and to the hearts of orphans.

Since December last year, Terry Buchanan – a pensioner himself – has been humbly playing for the passers by who sometimes drop a little money into the hat in front of him.

The sign says the donations go to The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund. And they do. Every cent.

“I’m committed to give everything that goes into my cap to the Orphan Fund, nothing else,” said Buchanan, who has been living in Ballito for 35 years.

The Orphan Fund’s fundraising co-ordinator June Mdolo said they are so grateful to Terry for this selfless gesture.

“The Orphan Fund is deeply humbled by Terry’s generosity. So far this year he has donated a significant amount of R5694.70 which have been the takings from his gigs at Lifestyle Centre,” said Mdolo.
