Madiba takes the cake!
The delicious masterpiece not only celebrated Madiba's birthday but also celebrated the lives of children living with cancer.
Founder of Cupcakes of Hope, Ballito’s Sandy Cipriano, was the master mind behind a three-metre tall cake of Nelson Mandela.
Cupcakes of Hope is a national non-profit organisation that aims to create awareness and help raise funds for children with cancer through their love for baking cupcakes.
The charity, which was founded in 2009, helps 50-70 patients every month by paying for their medical and other day-to-day expenses like nutritional food, nappies, clothing and transport money for hospital visits.

Cipriano said the Mandela cake was created on July 28 and showcased at Sandton City, to raise awareness for the brand.
She said the delicious masterpiece not only celebrated Madiba’s birthday but also celebrated the lives of children living with cancer.
“The cake weighed more than 750 kilograms and consisted of 1200 eggs, 100 kilograms buttercream, 290 kilograms chocolate, 60 kilograms fondant, 175 kilograms flour and nearly one ton of love! We joined hands with a team of volunteers which included International Cake Master winner, Dot Klerk. Our other special volunteer was Khyla Korb, a 10-year-old cancer fighter.”

Cipriano said the day was made more special as they were joined by Madiba’s grandchildren, Ndaba and Andile Mandela.
“Mandela said it is in our hands to make a difference in the community and what we are doing at Cupcakes of Hope is using our hands to bake a difference in the community.
“We hope that this event will inspire more people to become cupcake angels as this is by far the sweetest way to save a life”.
Last year they also set a new Guinness world record for the tallest tower of cupcakes.
“September is childhood cancer awareness month and Cupcakes of Hope will be hosting South Africa’s 7th national cupcake day for kids with cancer on September 29 at 79 malls across South Africa. Last year more than R1.8 million was raised for kids with cancer.”
