Gear up for the Ballito Family Festival!
The money raised through the two-day, family friendly festival will be used to provide much-needed equipment for disabled children.
Calling all crafters, foodies and businesses to book your stall for the Ballito Family Festival at Umhlali Preparatory School hosted by the Rotary Club of Ballito on September 29 and 30.
Rotary Club of Ballito’s Jeff Shinns said the money raised through the two-day, family friendly festival will be used to provide much-needed equipment for disabled children.
“Visiting local homes and schools for children with cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis and seeing them lie on the floor all day or sitting on a beanbag is tough. We have found an organisation in England called Physionet that collects specialised equipment tossed out by hospitals and redistributes it. We have already imported three containers with wheelchairs, medical beds and rollators for the elderly,” said Shinns.
They also get standing frames which give children the opportunity to see the world from a whole new perspective.

“We have 11 standing chairs which are worth about R30 000 each that let you strap the child into the chair helping them to stand up.
“We gave one to a 12-year-old child with cerebral palsy at Bloom Special Needs School in Salt Rock and her mom’s first reaction after seeing her daughter standing up for the first time was that she didn’t realise how tall she was.”
To bring in a container costs about R85 000, therefore this festival fundraiser is needed to help stock up the piggy bank again for the next container load.
“We hope to see about 1500 paying visitors per day at the festival which will run from 9.30am to 5pm. We will have business, craft and food stalls as well as an eating area with live music, ice cream vendors, vehicle stands for vintage cars, motor bikes and Land Rovers as well as a children’s play area.”

The vehicle stands start from 30 square metres for a single vehicle to 100 square metres for four cars and cost R100 per square metre.
The craft and food stalls are nine metres squared big and cost R1000 for the two days including a trestle table and two chairs. Crafters, marketers and food vendors must provide their own cover which is mandatory for all stands.
Set up will start from 12.00 noon on September 28 and security will be provided until pack up day on October 1. Security lights will be on all night.
Stands will be allocated on a first come basis. To book your spot, contact Amanda at 079 940 0994 or send a mail to amanda@wedocreative.co.za
