Lend a hand and help the less privileged furries

The SAVE Clinics are held quarterly in Shayamoya, Groutville, Shakaskraal and Etete.

Hop on board Furever Pet Rescue’s sterilise, assist, vaccinate, and educate pet owners (SAVE) programme to help make a difference to the less privileged furries on the Dolphin Coast.

The Ballito-based rescue organisation’s Cheryl Herda said the SAVE Clinics are held quarterly in Shayamoya, Groutville, Shakaskraal and Etete.

“Since the SAVE Clinics started in 2015, 290 dogs have been sterilised while 1263 dogs and 50 cats have been vaccinated. Flea/tick or mange treatment has been given as well as blankets, food parcels or toys where possible,” said Herda.

She said people often have a misconception that township residents do not care about their pets, however they see that this is not the case.

“The pet owners in the communities respond to the clinics with such gratitude that it inspires our core group of volunteers to keep giving their time. It is incredibly uplifting to see some of the same pet owners return to our clinics year after year with their vaccination books.

“The fact that they return for their pets’ 5-1 Virbac vaccinations, rabies vaccinations and Frontline tick/flea treatment speaks volumes about the love they have for their animals.”

She said they have seen a decrease in mange and fewer puppies being brought in which means the sterilisation program is having the desired result.

The costs for these clinics are covered through fundraising efforts and the support of their volunteers and sponsors.

“We are grateful for the continued support and sponsorship from our amazing group of volunteers as well as Aloe Vet who treat the pets and their owners with such compassion, Frontline Plus/Nexgard & Virbac.”
