Spreading the warmth on the North Coast

The second quarter every year the Fund concentrates on the annual Soup, Socks and Snuggles campaign which is so very well supported by our community and particularly local schools.

The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund raised a phenomenal R209,000 over the last six months. The committee met on July 18 to make the Fund’s quarterly allocations.

The money raised (and distributed) for the six months February through to August is reflected in the table below.

Raffles held on Valentine’s Day, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day raised over R11,000. The Richmond Plumbing Dolphin Coast Ladies Challenge was a substantial contributer.

This three day event organized by Marthie Horn raised over R30,000 for the Fund, this through T Box sponsors as well as a very well supported raffle.

The very popular, now bi-annual Dudley Pringle Family Fishing Day is proving to be very successful for fund raising and raised over R32,000.

R & C Instrumentation sew faithfully into the fund annually as do Rodger and Di Stewart, through the Dordet Trust. Many readers will have enjoyed the music of Terry Buchanan at the popular Market at Lifestyle.

He does this for the love of music and all the money he makes he donates to the Orphan Fund.

Seeff, Dolphin Coast contribute handsomely to the admin of the Orphan Fund.

Anonymous donations continue to be a blessing, some of which have been sowing faithfully into the Fund since its inception in 2003.

Grateful thanks to the community for supporting this endeavor to feed and clothe and send to school the very many orphaned and vulnerable children in our midst.

The second quarter every year the Fund concentrates on the annual Soup, Socks and Snuggles campaign which is so very well supported by our community and particularly local schools.

This year, donations poured in and the Orphan Fund was overwhelmed by the love, generosity and support, with an incredible 3 703 items being donated.

Items were donated by Crawford Pre-Primary, Crawford Prep, Curro Mt Richmore, Little Rascals Sheffield, Umhlali Preparatory, Ashton College, All Souls Anglican Church, Church Alive, NG Noordkus Gemeente, Lifestyle Superspar and the North Coast Courier staff.

All items were counted and allocated to the 13 beneficiary NGOs linked to the Orphan Fund, with the help of our handy volunteers. A very simple way of helping at no cost or inconvenience to you is to display a Litres for Education sticker on your car and fill up at BP Ballito or BP Sibaya.

They will donate 10 cents for every litre of fuel you fill, to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

Collect your sticker from BP or from the Courier offices. The Orphan Fund is audited and registered as a non-profit organization and has also been approved by the Receiver of Revenue for tax exemption.

This means that donors can receive a tax deduction on donations made.
