KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu and KZN MEC for human settlements Ravi Pillay, officially handed over title deeds for phase 2 of the Zinkwazi Siyembezi Housing project in Darnall.

Elderly residents who had been waiting for years to be given the full rights to their homes were overcome with emotion.

MEC Pillay advised the beneficiaries not to allow anyone to manipulate them into signing their homes over to them.

He said this campaign was real and concrete service delivery.

“We are handing over the title deeds as part of a national program that we are driving in the province. We hope to deliver over 10 000 title deeds in this financial year. “

Pillay said this was a very important part of the land debate.

“This is part of empowering people with ownership of land.

“People are distorting our policy saying the ANC wants to take all land.

“We cannot be giving title deeds with one hand and expropriating with another. The expropriation is to equally share the land among people.

“Apart from the dignity that title deeds give to people, it forms part of their assets.”

Pillay said he hoped people would improve and extend their homes.
