Auctioning smiles for the Orphan Fund

The event raised a grand total of R22 990 with R19 850 coming from the auction.

It was a night of live music, loads of laughter and good food during The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund fundraising event last week.

Eager patrons came with their hearts full and wallets in hand to Mo-Zam-Bik restaurant last Thursday, ready to contribute to helping improve the lives of vulnerable children on the North Coast.

Eugene Coetzee, Melanie Trichardt, Claudia Ryan, Brada Broughton, Corrie Calitz, Zani Dickson, Nicole van Metzinger and Chantelle Dickinson.

The crowd were in good spirits all evening thanks to the sterling performance by entertainer Winston Smile.

Orphan Fund coordinator June Mdolo was overwhelmed by the community support.

“We are sincerely grateful to our sponsors of the auction prizes: Grant and Kathrine Laatz owners of Mount Grace Cottages, Brett Michielin of Mo-Zam-Bik, Dwain Swiegers and Craig Glover of IMF Gym, Bruce and Rose Stephenson of The North Coast Courier and Devan and Chantal Gramoney of DJ Gas. Congratulations to all our winners.

The top bid of the night came from Jerry and Annmarie Novak, who put up R5000 for a two-night stay for a family of five at Mount Grace Cottages in Himeville. The owners then generously offered up the cottage again to Nirasha and Basil Dhaniram who had only just been outbidded, bringing in an adittional R4,500 for the Fund!

Winston Smile surprised everyone by putting himself up for auction bringing in another R4000 from an eager Jerry Novak. The other winning bidders included Harcourts Ballito (a collection of six wines and Peri-peri for life); Claudia Ryan (two three-month passes to I Move Fitness (IMF) Gym); Sam Taylor (a three-course dinner for four at Mo-Zam-Bik); Mel Trichardt (a Totai gas stove) and The North Coast Courier (five Portuguese wines).
