Umhlali mother critical after fatal crash, blood donations needed
A call for O-negative donations continues to spread like wildfire across the Dolphin Coast community.
A serious collision this morning on the M4 north bound near the Sibaya Precinct left one man dead and a woman severely injured.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said two light motor vehicles were involved in the collision at around 7am.
“Both patients are believed to be the drivers,” said Herbst.
The woman, believed to be the mother of a grade 1 pupil at Umhlali Prep, is now fighting for her life at a hospital in Umhlanga and is in desperate need of blood donations.
Messages have been flooding local WhatsApp groups calling for O-negative donations.
A close friend of the victim has confirmed that blood can only be donated at one of the SANBS (South African National Blood Service) branches, and not directly at the hospital.
“The last two O-negative bags available in KZN were used this morning.
“Those who are able to donate can visit the SANBS branch in Durban North, or the branch in Pinetown.
“Blood donated at the Pinetown branch will be sent directly to her,” said the victim’s friend, who has asked to remain anonymous until all family members are notified of the accident.

Alternatively, if you are unable to travel and would still like to donate, the Ballito blood clinic is taking place this Tueday, 11 September from 10am – 6pm at the Ballito Library.
