Maphumulo boys become men at cultural event

Hundreds of Maphumulo’s young men were educated in the benefits of being circumcised and those who were already circumcised were encouraged to be responsible.

This was part of the Inkunzi Isematholeni cultural event that was hosted by Maphumulo municipality at its community hall on Friday.

The day started with a march from the town, with the young men wearing traditional attires and singing traditional songs.

The initiative was to ensure the implementation of South Africa’s National Strategic Plan on HIV, TB and STIs launched last March.

Deputy mayor Zama Ncalane said the event was not only about circumcision, but it was also about exposing young men to mentorship and life orientation.

“You are here to be taught how to become good and responsible men of tomorrow who have respect for themselves, women and children,” said Ncalane.
