Sponsor a meal, change a life

Meals on Wheels for the Aged is now serving and delivering more than 29 million meals every year throughout SA.

When frailty and poverty deny elderly people the basic privilege of balanced nutrition, the Meals on Wheels For The Aged service makes a world of difference.

Founded in 1964 and registered as a non-profit organisation and public benefit organisation, Meals on Wheels for the Aged is now serving and delivering more than 29 million meals every year throughout SA.

The multi-faceted welfare service aims at helping the elderly live out their sunset years in dignity and relative comfort.

The service includes old-age homes, frail-care centres and service centres for senior citizens. Hundreds of voluntary helpers provide personal contact and deliver nourishing meals to the homes of senior citizens.

The meals are usually prepared in Meals on Wheels kitchens and delivered by way of a special delivery vehicle that is manned by a driver and a “hopper.”

“Hoppers” not only present the meals to the senior citizens, they also lend an ear to the lonely, offer guidance and advice wherever needed.

Those who would like to help in some way, meal sponsorship can now be made by sending a text message.

Sponsor a meal by SMSing the word ‘Meal’ to 39055. Each SMS is billed at R15.
