UPDATE: KwaDukuza mall still to comply to safety regulations
Last week the KDM executive council accepted the developer's application to extend their temporary occupation certificate.
KwaDukuza municipality has extended the new KwaDukuza Mall’s temporary occupation certificate for another 90 days.
The R500 million investment by property tycoon Vivian Reddy opened its doors on September 28, a day later than originally planned due to the KDM council initially denying the developer an occupation certificate on the basis that the mall was incomplete.

Reddy was then given a temporary occupation certificate on condition that his team fixes a list of problems more than 10 pages long, mostly safety-related.
However, last week the KDM executive council accepted the developer’s application to extend their temporary occupation certificate.
KDM media liaison Sipho Mhkize said they took into account that the construction industry would shut down between December and January.
“The decision by the building control officer was informed by the progress made on fulfilling the conditions of the temporary occupational certificate granted during the opening, validation of reasons for not achieving some of the conditions, the socio-economic benefits of the mall to the community and written undertakings made by the developer to fulfill all obligations as per approved building plans.”
