Dolphin Coast comes together for cancer fighter

A fundraiser was held for Claire Hodgson who has been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma.

Dolphin Coasters joined forces to support a beautiful young woman fighting cancer at a breakfast fundraiser at Digs Kitchen, Sugar Rush recently.

Umhlanga resident Claire Hodgson has been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma and has had 42 tumors removed over the past six months.

Her brother, Dean lives in Ballito and their local friends organised the fund raiser which made an incredible R30 000 towards the expensive specialised cancer treatment in Israel which she is in desperate need of.

Claire Hodgson has had countless scans, infections and infusions, but still has her smile.

Her incredibly positive attitude has seen her persevere through the countless hospital procedures with a smile and she said she is eternally grateful to everyone who has supported her thus far.

“I just want to say a massive, ginormous, super duper thank you to each and every one of you who have shown such kindness and generosity by giving up your hard earned money with your donations to help get me the treatment I need.

“I am completely blown away by the love and support I have received thus far,” said Hodgson, who documented her journey on her Facebook blog – Claire’s Journey in kicking cancer’s butt.

“It really does give me so much extra strength knowing how many people near and far have my back and are cheering me on in this fight. I know I will beat this and it will be thanks to all of you for getting me to the top of this mountain. I feel so incredibly loved.”
