Umhlali SAPS Captain Vinny Pillay keeps on shining

Pillay received two awards for his excellent service to the community.

Umhlali’s top cop, Vinny Pillay has done it again, this time scooping not one, but two respective awards for his excellent service to the community.

Two weeks ago, Pillay – who has been with the force for 25 years – won the SAPS provincial commissioner’s excellence award for visible policing and last week, the cop took home the Ilembe Chamber presidential award for the role he played in maintaining peace in the labour sector.

Having won a national integrity idol earlier in the year, Pillay said he was honoured and humbled by the recognition.

“The Chamber and SAPS awards were a week apart and I am still overwhelmed.

“I am lucky to be apart of a community that is so willing to lend a helping hand, so my accomplishments are not mine alone.”

Ilembe Chamber CEO Cobus Oelofse said Pillay was chosen to receive the presidential award for the role he played in enhancing peace and stability which are essential aspects to a local thriving business environment.

“Captain Pillay’s reputation and network within the SAPS organisation and community is an important conduit in our pursuit of an environment where business operations can be conducted uninterrupted, employees can report for work without the fear of intimidation during strike action. Employers and employees can exercise their rights to an industrial dispute in a responsible, controlled and law-abiding manner.”
