Load shedding unlikely until mid January

We may be in for a load shedding free festive season, but use electricity sparingly.

Businesses can give a sigh of relief as Eskom has announced that the probability of load shedding being implemented between now and Sunday, January 13 remains low.

This comes after four consecutive load shedding free days.

Apparently this is the result of the expected decrease in demand as businesses and industries close down for the festive break.

The news will be welcomed after having to face the daunting prospect of Christmas in the dark, however the power utility has said in a statement released on their Twitter page, that local power outages may still occur due to technical faults on the distribution network.

It was also noted that heavy rains over the December to March period could impact coal handling and feeding to the boilers, potentially impacting generation production.

However, over the December period, Eskom say they will intensify their maintenance activities.

“While we do not anticipate load shedding we continue to warn customers that as the system remains vulnerable, any shift could increase the probability of load shedding.”
