Big boost for Ballito cancer support network

The halls of the radiology department at Netcare Alberlito were lined with all things pink as the staff rallied to raise awareness for breast cancer.

An impressive total of R10 000 was donated to the Ballito Cancer Support Network (BCSN) last week, the profits of a fundraiser by the staff of Dr Vimul Valabjee & Associates.

The halls of the radiology department at Netcare Alberlito Hospital were lined with all things pink this October as the staff rallied to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Their message was to urge women to go for regular mammograms, particularly in women over the age of 40 or if there is a family history of breast cancer.

Sweet treats, pink bracelets and homemade backed goods were sold in an effort to raise funds for the third annual fundraiser, while a beautiful pink crocheted hippo and crocheted blanket were raffled off.

Local businesswoman and cancer survivor Jaime Ernst who runs BSCN was delighted by the donation.

Jaime has been providing advice, counselling and assistance to cancer sufferers and their families since 2008. As a qualified Intensive Care Unit nurse she has a deep understanding of the importance of compassionate support for cancer sufferers and their families and her aim is for this to be readily available in the Dolphin Coast community.

Since the start of BCSN, Jaime has helped more than 200 families, and every donation helps towards continuing her work.
