First steps in the online world with the help of Wordsmiths Marketing

Wordsmiths Marketing's digital strategist Janelle Barnard and Partners for Possibility's (PfP) Gill Cox teamed up to help give the little school with big dreams a digital footprint.

Two Christmas elves set out to Parkgate Primary School in Verulam last week to deliver the gift of social media.

Wordsmiths Marketing‘s digital strategist Janelle Barnard and Partners for Possibility’s (PfP) Gill Cox teamed up to help give the little school with big dreams a digital footprint.

Barnard gave the teachers their first social media lesson with a focus on setting up their Facebook page and said it was great to work with them.

“It was so refreshing to see how interested the teachers were to learn how to manage their Facebook page. Their story is great, and the steps that they are taking to continually improve the school are inspiring,” said Barnard.

Newly appointed principal Dr Ravi Perumal said he was extremely grateful to Wordsmiths and Janelle for teaching them how to promote their school online.

“Now we can tell the community about the events at the school and our pupils’ achievements. This will be a wonderful tool for us,” said Dr Perumal.

His school was selected to be part of the PfP program which is aimed at empowering principals to be leaders of change by partnering them with business leaders. Umdloti’s Cox started with PfP in 2017 and said she could not have been partnered with a better principal.

“Dr Perumal is driven, enjoys multitasking and always has many projects on the go – much like me,” said Gill, who still keeps in contact with the first school principal she partnered, Bizzie Magwaza from Mshwati Memorial Primary.

“We are currently trying to raise funds and collect books to get Parkgate’s library going. Biblionef SA has already donated about 160 books, but that will not go far with nearly 900 pupils in the school.”

If you have any new or gently used, child appropriate books to donate to help fill the empty library shelves, contact Gill at 082 891 0653.
