‘Campfire’ tales by Kingsley Holgate as Ballito welcomes home expedition team

It was only fitting to host the event at Katmandu restaurant, with over 200 guests eagerly waiting to hear about the five month, 17 000km transcontinental journey.

It was a proudly South African affair at Ballito Lifestyle Centre on Sunday evening as Dolphin Coasters welcomed home their very own Cape Town to Kathmandu Land Rover expedition team, featuring explorer, humanitarian and author Kingsley Holgate.

Sticking to the theme, it was only fitting to host the event at Katmandu restaurant, with over 200 guests filling the venue to near capacity, eagerly waiting to hear about the five month, 17 000km transcontinental journey from the southern tip of Africa to the top of the world.

Kingsley Holgate had the audience eating out of his hands.

The Cape Town to Kathmandu expedition is the first in a new adventure theme of ‘Africa and Beyond’ for Kingsley, his son Ross and their band of adventurers.

Food was served and drinks flowed as Kingsley and Ross shared ‘campfire’ tales of their adventures – some thrilling and others not for the faint-hearted.

Funds were also raised at the event for their conservation education youth programme, known as the Rhino Art Campaign, with rhino art pieces from some of our local schools covering the walls for guests to see.

Katmandu restaurant was packed to overflowing.

To add to this, the evening’s auction raised a further pretty penny – all of which contributes towards the successful youth-art conservation initiative.

The night ended on a festive note with Rhino Art ambassadors and maskandi duo David ‘Qadasi’ Jenkins and Maqhinga Radebe providing proudly South African tunes, keeping the guests toe-tapping and jiving while Kingsley and his team mingled with the crowd.
