School bus collides with cane truck in Stanger

A helicopter was sent to take the most critical of the school children to hospital.

It was a traumatic start to the morning in Stanger after a fully loaded school bus collided with a cane truck at the Dawnside intersection.

The truck hit the front of the bus leaving the passenger side completely mangled.

A total of 27 school pupils suffered injuries ranging from serious to moderate.

“One of the scholars seated in the front of the bus was entrapped and sustained critical injuries,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

“Whilst under the care of paramedics, KwaDukuza Fire and Rescue extricated her from the wreckage.”

The Lenmed1 specialised air ambulance was dispatched and transported her to Lenmed Ethekwini Hospital And Heart Centre for specialised care.

Details surrounding the cause of the accident are subject to police investigation.
