Ballito pool builder cleans up at pool awards
The pool that won Kenny Matthews Pools the award was a suspended pool in Simbithi Eco Estate.
Local pool builder, Kenny Matthews Pools, scooped six gold and four silver awards at this years’ pool awards, held by The National Spa and Pools Institute of South Africa (NSPI). The NSPI held its annual conference and awards last month in Gauteng.
Companies send in photographs of their work which are presented anonymously to an international panel of judges. The photos are then graded.

Kenny Matthews is perhaps most proud of winning the title for National Pool of the Year 2019.
The pool that won him the award is a suspended pool in Simbithi Eco Estate.
The same pool also scored the Regional Pool of the Year award, and Matthews and his team also picked up the gold Engineering Award.
“I never go to the awards thinking I am going to win,” said Matthews. “There are lots of really good pool builders in South Africa.”

Matthews and his team build pools in many estates like Brettenwood Coastal Estate, Dunkirk Estate, Simbithi Eco Estate and Zimbali Coastal Resort & Estate.
“The swimming pool industry is very competitive,” said Matthews. “We try to make sure our workmanship is top notch.”
Matthews is currently building an eco-pool in Simbithi.
“It is something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said.
Slimline Pools in Ballito also did well at the awards, winning both a gold and silver medal.
