One dead and three injured as car hurtles off bridge near Tinley Manor

Emergency services were delayed, reportedly by the many motorists using the emergency lane.

Emergency rescue personnel this afternoon worked fervently to free three people from the vehicle in which they were trapped.

The vehicle was travelling along the N2 southbound in the vicinity of Tinley Manor when the driver is said to have lost control, sending the vehicle hurtling over the Mvoti bridge.

The vehicle landed on its roof, trapping two people inside.

According to paramedics, the vehicle landed on its roof, with two people being thrown from the vehicle.

“Four persons suffered injuries ranging from serious to moderate and a fifth was declared dead at the scene,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesman Paul Herbst.

Herbst said emergency services were delayed getting to the scene, due to numerous motorists blocking the emergency lane.

“We ask all motorists to please avoid using this emergency at any time.”
