Biker loses leg in freak M4 accident

The force of the impact between the biker and the chevron resulted in the biker's leg being torn from his body.

Emergency rescue personnel had minutes to stabilise a biker and prevent him from bleeding to death after he collided with a chevron on the M4 near Zimbali Wedge shortly after 8pm last night.

According to paramedics, the force of the impact between the biker and the chevron caused his leg to be torn from his body.

Umhlali K9 Search and Rescue units recovered the man’s leg some 50m from the scene of the accident.

“Advanced life support paramedics from IPSS Medical Rescue and Netcare 911 worked together to stabilise the critically injured rider before transporting him to a hospital where surgeons waited for his arrival,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

This is the third serious accident reported this weekend on the North Coast.
