LIVE: President Ramaphosa to address the nation on coronavirus
South African citizens living in fear eagerly awaited the presidential address on Sunday evening however, this was postponed owing to the president being locked in a meeting with the National Command Centre and is expected to commence some time this evening.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will tonight address the nation on the latest measures to curb the spread of coronavirus amid growing speculation that the country would be put into lockdown.
South African citizens eagerly awaited the presidential address on Sunday evening but this was postponed and is expected to start at 7.30pm this evening.
In his meeting on Sunday, the president and council discussed whether measures implemented to date have been sufficient or not, and whether new measures were required.
Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu urged that current circumstances required the country to work in unison while presidential spokesperson, Khusela Diko appealed for people to stop spreading fake news.
As of this afternoon at 2pm, March 23, it was confirmed that South Africa had 402 active cases of the Covid-19 virus.
The president is to address the nation at 7.30pm, the live stream is scheduled to start at the same time.
